Sign of the Times: Free Destination Club Trips & Price Cuts on Fractional Residences
| Written by Amy Gunderson 11/12/2008 |
As destination clubs and fractional residence developers struggle against a swooning economy and increasingly frugal consumers, we’re seeing something that’s been relatively absent from the market in recent years: deals.
Fractional developer Resort Equities slashed prices on two Lake Tahoe homes for buyers with contracts in by December 15. The three- and four-bedroom condos in the pedestrian-friendly Village at Northstar, a ski resort just north of the lake, are a short walk from a gondola. Resort Equities is offering one-eighth slices of the homes for $405,000 (down from $450,000) and will cover the first year of dues and property taxes, totaling about $13,000. There are four shares available. Ownership includes a minimum of five guaranteed weeks of use a year, with the exception of weeks falling over President’s Day and New Year’s Day.
Destination club Ultimate Escapes is offering prospective members a three-night stay in December at one of its homes in Cabo San Lucas. Getting an extended preview of a destination club property can be a tough proposition since clubs need to balance current member demand for those homes as well. But now some clubs are seeing that consumers might need a test drive first. Ultimate Escapes, which has 17 homes in Cabo San Lucas, set aside 18 of these mini-vacations for potential members in December, likely just before the holiday travel rush. Interested consumers must first sign up for a preview tour on the Ultimate Escapes Website.

Its a good idea..most people dont understand what a dclub is - so trial can help - as long as it does not take nights away from members

Great idea. It'd be hard to resist signing up after experiencing. Seems like AK also has some sort of trial or money back deal.
