Private jets are the best way to fly but if you have to fly commercial – business class is the way to go. There are a few airlines now offering exclusively biz-class flights. Biz-class seats come with gourmet meals, drinks, entertainment and most importantly, the seats recline flat into a bed. Another perk is that the planes carry far fewer passengers – making the boarding process quicker and less painful. Here are some carriers offering biz-class-only flights:
Eos Airlines
Route: New York, JFK to London, Stansted
Frequency: Twice daily Sunday-Friday, once on Saturday
Aircraft: Boeing 757-200, seats 48 passengers
Seat Specs: reclines 180 degrees to length of 6’6” width of 21”, leg room 36”
Fares Start at: $2,950 round-trip
MAXjet Airlines
Routes: New York, JFK or Washington, Dulles to London, Stansted
Frequency: New York, Twice daily Sunday-Friday and Washington D.C., once daily, no flights Tuesdays or Saturdays
Aircraft: Boeing 767-200 ER, seats 102 passengers
Seat Specs: reclines 160 degrees to length of 6’6” width of 19”, leg room 60”
Fares Start at: $1,499 round-trip from JFK and $1,750 round-trip from Dulles
Silverjet Airlines
UK based Silverjet plans to launch in early 2007 and compete with Eos and MAXjet, offering biz-class-only air travel between London and New York. They plan to have about 100 flatbed seats per plane and ticket prices should be around £799 or roughly $1,500.
We compared these new carriers to business class fares on regular commercial flights. We priced airfare for a Mon-Fri trip, from New York to London and here is what we found:
British Airways: $1,742
Virgin Atlantic: $1,978
American Airlines: $3,346
As you can see, the price of flying biz-class-only is about the same, or sometimes less than flying biz-class on a commercial plane. We think this is a great choice for long international flights and hope to see more carries follow the example of these three airlines.
